Our May Long Weekend was pretty quiet and I would not have asked for it to be any other way. Neil and I had a nice brunch on Saturday at Cora's, then spent the rest of the day with my dad and brother who were heading back to Regina that evening. On Sunday, we relaxed and both read a book as the power was out here for a few hours. It was kind of funny as this power outage resulted in people being stuck in the elevators in our building. Sure enough, the fire department showed up with three trucks to get them out. Our suite is right beside the elevators and we could hear the alarm being sounded that people were stuck. Thank God it wasn't me -- I'm as far from an optimist as they come and I'd have been sitting there fretting over numerous "untimely death" scenarios...
Monday was more of the same: lounging around the house, doing some light cleaning and staying in my pj's all day. It was wonderful.
Sunday and Monday night we got to take in the light show from our balcony... this is a really lame video (hard to see the fire crackers -- but really, you could see them really well from our balcony) but you get the idea... people everywhere were setting off firecrackers. It was quite noisy but it was sort of neat.

Neil and I thought it was sort of strange that there is no city bylaw stating that you need to be in an open area to set of firecrackers. You'd think it would be a fire hazard... Sure enough, the hooligans and in general, stupid public, were out in fine form as you can watch here on the CityNews website. Apparently, there were many incidents of people firing firecrackers at other people. On the news tonight, there was even a fire caused by a kid setting off a firecracker in their bedroom. Where are people's brains these days???
video is set to private...I can't see it!!!!1`T
