While I've been bored...

Tagged:

I've been keeping busy by creating two new blogger sites. Both are family related and relatively mundane (by that I just mean that they will not likely appeal to a mass audience, beyond my family).

The first is Underwood Baby . This site has been created to chronicle my not-yet-born niece's existence.

The second is Harry's Way Cool Place . A Site devoted to my super cute nephew Harrison.

In other news, I believe I have gone and gotten me a part-time job. It's a convenient little work-from-home gig where I get to evaluate educational websites. It is flexible, in that when I do finally get noticed by some Ontario school district, I will be able to keep this job.

In case any of you were wondering about my last "job interview" -- well it was conducted 50% in french. I believe that tells you all you need to know.

Parlez-vous l'anglais? Je ne parle pas le francais.

Funny enough, I don't think the interview went all that terribly -- except for the fact that the position was to teach core french. If they require core french teachers to be fluent in french, no wonder they can't find anyone to teach it! Maybe the fact that Ontario is so close to Quebec plays a part because being unable (non-fluent) to speak french had no bearing on being able to teach core french in BC. If you knew some vocabulary and could follow a lesson plan, you were good to go. I suppose that is a sad reflection on our education system today and I guess I should be glad that Ontario has some standards... even if they do get in the way of me getting my foot in the door.

Fight Fire with Kids on Fire

Neil and I have a new dinner time tradition. I PVR The Daily Show with John Stewart and The Colbert Report in the afternoon and we watch them over dinner. Both are damn funny. Case in point, here is last night's WORD.

Enjoyed the line "The best way to fight evil Islamic fanaticism is with good Christian fanaticism."

So I went to youtube and found the trailer to the documentary, "Jesus Camp," that Colbert refers to. Check it out:

This scares the crap out of me. I'm more for teaching kids manners, respect and tolerance/acceptance of people, to love... but not for out-right brainwashing. Find me a kid who hasn't attended an indoctrination seminar (ahem cough cough) I mean "Jesus Camp" that will claim he found God at age 5...

Holy concerts, batman!

He knows me so well...

So my better half has finally returned from his adventure abroad (he had a good trip). As a good spouse returning home from a trip he arrived bearing gifts. Now he could have bought me something touristy and campy. He might have bought me jewellery. Not my husband, he cuts right to the chase and brings me what he knows I will love. Wine and chocolate. Yum.

Good is good and bad is bad...

Ah Sheryl Crowe, you sum up exactly how I feel about the new Justin Timberlake single, SexyBack.

People are simply raving over his new album. It hit #1 on the Billboard charts today. While I have never been a fan of his 'type' of music, I know a good crappy song from a bad crappy song. In general, I will admit it when an artist I'm not personally into has a catchy ditty; I call them 'guilty pleasures.' Guilty pleasures are songs that you sing along to in your car, with the windows rolled up and the volume low -- so not to let others around know that you are enjoying the track. This time however, I just don't understand it. SexyBack is an awful song. I have tried to give it time to appeal, given the hoopla, but the fact remains, it makes my ears bleed.

Why are people willing to listen to over produced, artificial garbage? If the guy has talent (and I do actually believe he has some singing chops), let me hear your voice. Not some weird machine altered crap.
