America got it right!!

David Cook wins American Idol!!!

Woohoo! I enjoyed this season so much that I suggested to Neil that we may have to go to the AI7 concert in Toronto this August.

BTW -- if you still aren't convinced this was amazing read this and this and this (this last one is so so true and onto a different topic... but definitely worth a read):

I agree with the above articles 100%!

Fair is fair

So now that I've announced to the world N's disturbing obsession with the WWE (he was rather annoyed at me), I felt it only fair for me to reveal my current obsession/guilty pleasure -- American Idol Season 7.

It started last year - I got sucked into the train wreck that was last season (Sanjaya, anyone?). I seriously think it is impossible not to get sucked in and/or have favourites once you start watching. This season, they have the amazing David Cook who has had crazy good performances. N just happens to be in the room when I watch Idol and while he complains bitterly that he has to endure it, he never leaves the room.

Anyhow, here are two performances by David Cook that totally blew my mind:

1.) A rock version of Michael Jackson's, Billy Jean (yes, I know it is the Chris Cornell version but... I had never heard it prior to seeing it on Idol and I think DC did a great job with it).

2.) DC turns Mariah Carey's, Always Be My Baby, into a rock ballad - pure genius!

To make this even more impressive -- I have to include a link to the original Mariah version. This guy ROCKS!

Just for a little something extra, I'm also going to include this: DC performs Innocent, by Canada's, Our Lady Peace on American Idol. His performance of this on Idol isn't nearly as good as the studio version he recorded. All performances on Idol are just short snippets of the song. A full length studio version of each song performed is available for download on Itunes. I found the studio version on Youtube and it is really good.

Do you smell what Barak is cooking?

I don't really want to get into how I know about this.

Ok... I do, N watches it religiously and I just turn a blind eye. I seriously didn't believe him when he told me about this until he sat me in front of the TV to watch it unfold. Last night, on Raw -- yea, WWE Raw, all 3 US presidential hopefuls (Clinton, Obama and McCain) gave taped addresses. Seriously, is this what it has come down to?? Instead of trying to educate voters we get dumbed down speeches in the hopes of winning over the masses with cheesy wrestling references?

Now it came to my attention recently, that there is a movie called Idiocracy, starring Luke Wilson, that pokes fun at the fact that "intelligent" people seem to be a dying breed. In fact, my brother gave me the movie to watch (I haven't had time to watch it yet) and after last night I think I'll have to make time. Sad thing is, it's supposed to be a comedy -- not reality.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I wasn't their target audience last night (clearly they were targeting physicists and rocket scientists).  Still, let's see how they did!

Do you smell what Barack is cooking?

I do and just like an article in The Economist last month, I wonder if he's as good a leader as he is a speaker. Didn't his lame-ass and old (cause come on, The Rock is a C-List movie star now, he's moved on...) WWE references seem natural to you?? Do I detect a closet WWE junkie??

Hill-Rod has been knocked down and got up again... (sounds like a Chumbawumba song) and she's willing to take a hit for you.

Seriously, I can't make fun of her -- she gave the lamest WWE speech ever and I can't help but feel bad for the unhip. I know she didn't win any votes last night but she gains my respect for looking awkward and uncomfortable in the ring -- she knows her place and it isn't standing in for Trish Stratus or 'Lizbeth.

What are you going to do when John McCain and his McCainiacs run wild on you?

I'm going to to start watching wrestling -- because until last night I hadn't been celebrating my freedom properly.
