movies

When nothing else is going on, I watch movies.

Neil and I watched the movie, Idiocracy, last night and I don't think I've ever heard him giggle like he did while viewing it.  It's an older flick (came out in 2006) and I'd never heard of it before my brother gave me a copy of it a while back.  It was pretty funny.   Here's a quick sample:

I also finally got around to watching, Across the Universe.  Several people told me that I'd love this movie -- my mom included.  She practically gushed about the young Paul McCartney look-alike, Jude, played by Jim Sturgess.  Anyhow, if you love The Beatles (and really, who doesn't) then you will absolutely love the soundtrack from this film.  While I didn't love the film, I did enjoy it because of the music. I found it a bit too artsy for me in places -- which is weird as I loved Moulin Rouge and they are not without their similarities.  Still, all of the actors played their parts well -- and sang well too.  The characters that channeled Janis Joplin (Sadie) and Jimmy Hendrix (JoJo) were particularly stellar.

What I've been watching...

Perhaps some spoilerish info below... you've been warned....

Is anyone else sad about how incredibly pathetic Grey's Anatomy has become?? It has gone from something I enjoyed every week to a toss up between incredibly predictable (most disappointing 3 episode story arc --> ferry accident) and incredibly terrible writing (Izzie and George).

While Grey's has sucked, LOST has gotten interesting again... (What the hell is John Locke up to?? Jack and Claire siblings?) (Desmond can see the future... Charlie is going to die???)

I hate to admit this but I am shamelessly addicted to what would appear to be the worst season of American Idol?? Seriously, it is so bad it is entertaining -- though only through the taping power of the PVR and the ability to fast forward.

Gilmore girls wasn't on this week and that was sad -- hands down my favorite show on TV. While that may be true I still found this MAd TV skit of "Gabmore Girls" pretty funny.

Watched a Biography special on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and am once again longing for something of its quality to grace the TV screen again.

My sister-in-law introduced me to "How I Met Your Mother" on Mondays -- it's pretty funny! It has now been added to the rather embarrassingly long list of programmed to record on the PVR weekly viewing.

In movie news -- and I rarely see any movies but recently I've seen The Last Kiss (subpar), Stranger Than Fiction (way better than expected), and Casino Royale (a touch disappointing though Daniel Craig makes a very good 007). We also rented The Departed but haven't watched it yet...

Lamest post ever? Possibly -- but then again, I am pretty lame.

Brrr it's freaking cold here...

Most of you must know that I'm in Regina for a visit. Apparently I brought the cold. I arrived last Wednesday night and it's been cold and snowy since I arrived. Thursday, Friday and Saturday were spent doing the usual: errands, shopping, visiting... and planning a baby shower. Saturday night I went to a "tacky tropical party" dressed in turtle neck sweater, jeans and lei. I stuck out like a sore thumb. I got to catch up with a few people I haven't seen in ages and it was kind of like high school all over again except for the fact that I was sitting there wishing I had an eloquent excuse to leave. I just wasn't in the mood for such festivities. I did get to visit with some people I hadn't seen in a long long time and that was enjoyable. Sunday was the baby shower and in my humble opinion, the shower was a success! There are new pictures to be seen at http://underwood-baby.blogspot.com/.

Anyone who knows my family will know that they are all a bunch of freaky night owls -- so naturally, since arriving, the earliest I have gotten to bed is 4AM (sure enough I am writing this at 4:07AM local time). I don't think I have ever been so tired. Ever. Today was the day to get back on track and I slept most of it -- felt very refreshed when I woke up at 4:30PM after a 3 hour nap. The problem with an afternoon nap -- well, I am still wide awake right now, that's what!

Must try to get myself to sleep.

Don't worry AO and Neil, I'll probably come home next Saturday. I know you both must be missing me horribly (heehee).

Oh, I just thought I should add that I have watched 2 movies since arriving... You, Me and Dupree -- hands down the worst movie I have seen in a long time. If you're ever going to listen to one thing I tell you: avoid, avoid, avoid this movie. Tess, my mom and I should go on some Stan and Kenny-like quest to get our money back from Owen Wilson. I want my $5.99 back.

The other movie we watched was John Tucker Must Die. Not as bad, but not good either.

get away from me bitch!

that's what Neil really wanted to say to me yesterday but didn't.

My anger over my computer finally reached the boiling point and I lost it. I know Neil was trying to fix it. It just seems to me that if there is an impossible route to take -- Neil will find it and choose it. That drives me crazy. I like to take the most efficient way. If that costs us a few dollars and cents so be it -- I'd rather not have the headache. It got to the point where I decided to get out of his way for the rest of the day.

I needed a serious pick me up and looking out the window and staring out at the grey and rain, I decided to retreat to my bedroom and flip through my movie library. First up was, Under the Tuscan Sun. I've never read the novel but this movie is such a guilty pleasure. After watching it, my anger had receded somewhat. However, when I left the safe sanctuary of my room and looked at Neil swearing at my computer -- I annouced that I didn't need a man in my life. I was going to runaway to Tuscany, fix up a run-down villa, and get my grove back. Yeah -- Neil was not impressed. He sort of snorted at me.

So back to the bedroom I went. Obviously, I still needed to calm down. So I chose another movie. This time I chose, Love Actually. Well this movie turned me into a weepy, snivelling suck. My favourite storyline is the one with Liam Neeson and his stepson.

Sammy! Fantastic show! Classic drumming, son.
- Thanks. Plan didn't work, though.

- Tell her, then.

- Tell her what?

- That you love her.

-No way. Anyway, they fly tonight.

-Even better. Sam, you've got nothing to lose and you'll always regret it if you don't. I never told your mum enough.

I should have told her every day because she was perfect every day.

You've seen the films, kiddo. It ain't over till it's over.
-OK, Dad. Let's do it.

Let's go get the shit kicked out of us by love.

I love that last line.

It cheered me up -- the whole movie cheered me up.

This time, when I left my room I was nice

-- even though my computer is still not quite right.
